You know how to drive a nail with a hammer. You know how to use the saw. You have the necessary basic skills to do woodworking but what kind of projects do you start with? Many beginner woodworkers find it difficult to select projects that they can do. With so many categories of beginner woodworking projects on the Internet, it is no wonder that beginners feel confused. They usually want to start a project that would really put them into serious woodworking. Sometimes they start on one, and then later on find new project and jump on this without finishing the other.

So what do you then? How do you find a nice project with all the categories available on the Internet? Well, you could create your own categories of course. Ask yourself these simple questions; what do you find interesting? What are your needs? Answer these questions and you’ll create your own categories. Then, it would be easy for you to pinpoint what project will suit you. And your on your way to making your first woodwork project.

Here’s a situation. Ramon is 35 years old. He has a 6-year old son and a 13 year-old daughter. The garage is filled with tools just lying around with no organization to speak of. The backyard is no yard at all. A cardboard box serves as a TV stand. There is no computer desk. There is no place to unwind.

Ramon is just beginning to learn woodworking and is eager to test and practice his skills. And there are a lot of projects he can do. He can start on projects that will serve a pressing need. Completing such a project will not only fill a need but also encourage him to do more woodwork. But first he must do his categories of woodworking project. His category list may be similar with this.

Kids Projects: A toy box for a 6-year old. A study desk for the 13-year old

Garage Projects: Tool bench and shelves for organizing.

Outside Projects: Shed, deck and fence

Inside Projects: TV stand, computer desk

Projects for myself: A porch swing to relax in

With this list, Ramon can prioritize and select projects plans that he can do appropriate to his skills. He can then start on projects that he thinks should be accomplished first. Is a shed more important than the TV stand? Should he start with the garage projects first or should he do something else? By drawing up a category list, it becomes much easier to see which projects must come first and which projects can be done with what woodworking skills one have. It helps you advance slowly but surely into becoming a better woodworker.

Before deciding to begin woodworking, you must first realize you need to enjoy woodworking to become a good woodworker. It is a very simple requirement yet necessary for beginner woodworkers. Treat it as a fun and enjoyable hobby. And you’ll be able t o create finished projects that you’ll be proud to show off to other people.

For those people who are ready to enjoy woodworking, these five golden rules will help you develop your skills and make brilliant pieces as you go through your woodworking journey.

1.	Choose a project that you know you can complete. You are a beginner, so start with simple projects. Choose more complicated projects as your skill progresses. The most important thing is that you can finish the project. Look for a good source of projects. Find an inspiration on these projects. Select project that have practical value, ones that will be useful to you once finished. If you have several in mind, make a list, compare and trim it down. It might help to include the materials needed and rate the skill level needed as easy (1), moderate (2) and challenging (3). Remember to start simple first, nothing too ambitious.

2.	Always remember that you are on a learning experience and that is should be enjoyable. There is nothing better than having fun while learning. Nothing is also more rewarding than looking at a work that you have created with your hands. And once your confidence and your skill builds, you can start on projects that you feel passionate about.

3.	Give enough time for a project. Rushing a project most oftentimes is disastrous. So set realistic deadlines on the project. Break down the project into small tasks then make a reasonable timetable for them.

4.	Set a budget. Sometimes, the cost of a project could be way more than what is estimated if you are not careful. Set a budget at the start and keep on monitoring expenses. Stop and reassess when you are starting to go beyond your budget. Look for ways to cut costs. You can look for parts of same quality but cheaper cost or second-hand materials. Instead of buying tools that you’ll only use for the project, just borrow the tool from a friend.

5.	Always think positive. Believe me, there would be times when you can’t seem to do anything right. The project becomes frustrating. It’s normal. When such times come, remember that what you are doing is supposed to be enjoyable. Better to stop and have a break. Create a list what needs to be done to accomplish the task. Go back when you’re calm and ready. It may sometimes take a good night’s sleep or a time away for passion and inspiration to come back.

A woodworker from time to time encounters a project of good potential that seems easy to do. And so he buys the project plans and eagerly starts on the project. But on the process of building it, he finds himself overwhelm. The project plan is too complicated for him to understand. The end product is also not as good as the one in the plan. He ends up regretting the time and money wasted on a project that looked promising on a plan but is far from that on actual product.

He could have avoided all of this if only he had a good project plan. A good project plan is very important in making woodworks that are of superior look and quality. Superior look and quality woodworks command higher selling prices. But how do you choose a good project plan from all the thousand plans available on the market? Do you need to shell out more bucks to buy good plans? Does a more costly plan means a better quality project over a less expensive one? Not necessarily. Getting a hold of a good source is a sure way of getting the best project plans available.

So how would you know if the project plan is good if not the best? Here are 8 factors that could help you decide which project plan to buy.

1.	Project must be well-thought out. It must be engineered for easy construction and life-long durability.

2.	Must have clear and precise step-by-step instructions.

3.	Must have a complete listing of required project components.

4.	Must have diversity in projects and project categories.

5.	Must be designed with woodworker skills in mind and properly categorized.

6.	Must not leave any questions for the woodworker to answer.

7.	Must produce high-valued projects having superior look and quality.

8.	Must have 100% money back guarantee.

Some of you may have wish that you have known this factors when you were just starting woodworking. Imagine the time and money you could save. And the really good woods that the money could have been bought with.

Well, no use crying over spilled milk. From now on and with the factors in mind, you will now be making projects that would wow anyone who sees it. No need to force relatives to buy it. Just display your works somewhere conspicuous like your front yard. Good pieces need no other kind of marketing but itself. It would surely get noticed. And someone would definitely come and buy it.

Choosing the best project plan appropriate to your skills and resources is a great way in building your confidence in creating more advance woodworks. Pieces look good, last long and definitely easy to sell.

Scrapbooking provides the medium for preserving captured moments in a way that engages the viewer. Taking time with the foundational layout is critical in creating the desired effect. Having a well thought out platform gives you the opportunity to create a piece that will stand the test of time.

Start by assessing the number of pictures and the story you want to tell. Envision the flow of information and let your creativity take over. Occasionally everyone comes up short on ideas but there’s plenty of inspiring imagery everywhere you look.

Books and periodicals on scrapbooking are a treasure trove of ideas. Loaded with themes like “summer time” or “baby’s first birthday”, they help set you on the path that leads to your own imagination.

The internet is a gold mine of inspiration. Nearly infinite resources for ideas and you can browse what others have created. Online research can be invaluable.

Make sure to look outside of the scrapbooking world. Inspiration can be found on web pages, magazines and even in nature and architecture. Always be looking for configurations that attract you.

Just getting started? Look for kits and software that provide pre-fabricated layouts. You get some instant gratification that will lead you to come up your own configurations and prompt you to pursue new avenues and resources. Your confidence will grow as you become more familiar with successful layouts.

It’s always wise to take a look at what you want to incorporate in your layout before getting started. Catalog how many pictures you have and ask yourself how much journaling needs to be done. Other things to be considered are children’s artwork and mementos or personal items from special events. Get a visual on all of these things to better piece together your layout.

Make sure to determine the purpose of your page. Are you focusing on one picture and building around a single moment or are you piecing together several pictures to memorialize an event? There is no wrong answer to that question but it must have an answer to effectively tell a story that makes sense. Some events need a collage of images while others are fully encapsulated in a single, iconic photo.

Keep it simple. It is easy to lose the memory you want preserved on a page that is too full of extra décor. You also need to keep consistency in mind. Have a cohesive theme or feel for an entire album. Always remember to allow room for words and descriptions.

When just a beginner with scrapbooking, kits with themes are an excellent tool. They also are a great help and fantastically efficient when you’re crafting a scrapbook for someone else. These are a much appreciated gift. Take your time to find a kit that has the stencils, card stock and embellishments you’re looking for. Some are more extensive than others but the variety of kits can range from birth to graduations to 50th wedding anniversaries. You should be able to find whatever you need.

Give yourself plenty of time to visualize your layout before you ever go near your glue stick. Being patient and planning out what you want to accomplish will give you the best and most attractive results. Move pieces around on your page and come up with a goal. A little planning leads to great success.
