1. Find a French tutorial on CD that you can listen to in your car. Driving to and from work can be a great time to be practicing your phrases and pronunciation. It a great use of time and might even help you to forget the traffic.

2. Immerse yourself in French literature and movies. Grab a couple of friends and rent French films. Not only will be able to see and hear French being spoken, you might gain a bit of culture while you’re at it. Reading French books and periodicals will increase your recognition of French words and phrases.

3. Always have a good French/English dictionary with in arm’s reach. Get a recommendation from a French teacher and head to your local bookstore. While you’re there, invest in some flash cards. Have a friend or family member help you out by holding the cards up for you and letting you know if you nailed it or not. It might seem a little preschool, but it is highly effective.

4. Invest in Postit notes. Go around your house and label everything you see in French. As you do normal, every day things, those words will sink in and become a natural part of your thoughts and identification.

Take some time to set up your world to help you reach your goal of speaking French. There’s no reason why learning a new language has to be boring. Have some fun with it.
